Virginia Amateur Sports
VAS is a grassroots, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that promotes health and fitness in our statewide communities, directing more than 8 events throughout the year including The Smith Mountain Lake Triathlon, Star City Half Marathon,  and the Virginia Commonwealth Games at Liberty University.
 
Mission Statement: To promote awareness and benefits of physical fitness, life skills and healthy lifestyles through sports education, training & competition in our communities.

The Virginia Commonwealth Games at Liberty University
  • Known as Virginia’s Olympics, this annual event is the largest multi-sports festival in Virginia
  • Approximately 10,000+ athletes participate annually
  • The Games have an economic impact of approximately $6.19 million dollars annually
  • 73% of the athletes are 18 years and younger
  • All ages and abilities can participate
  • The Games offer 35+ team and individual sports
  • The majority of the sports are held in July
  • The Games receive no state funding, the major portion of funding comes from sponsors
  • The Games are supported by a grassroots network of over 1,200 volunteers including local organizing committees of all city/county parks and recreation, medical, police, schools, governments, local businesses, sponsors, clubs, organizations, and sports coordinators
  • The Games teach teamwork, values, good sportsmanship and a positive attitude towards health and fitness
 
Credentials - Member of the National Congress of State Games, recognized by the Virginia High School League, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and by the U.S. Olympic Paralympic Committee
