Virginia
Amateur Sports (VAS), organizers of the Coventry
Commonwealth Games, will be holding its annual Girls Sports
Clinic on 5 college and university campuses in Central and
Southwest Virginia on September 19, 2009. More than
400 girls ages 7-13 will be getting up early Saturday
morning looking forward to a half day of meeting new
friends, creating new memories and enhancing their skills
and knowledge in a variety of sports. Depending
on where they live, these young girls will be going to
Hollins University and Virginia Western Community
College. A variety of sports will be offered including
basketball, volleyball, field hockey, tennis, softball,
lacrosse, cheerleading and dance.
VAS
is proud to announce the awarding of 10 scholarships to 10
members of a new organization called G.R.O.W., Girls Rising
Onto Womanhood, a program founded by Virginia’s Teacher of
the Year, Ms. Stephanie Doyle. This program’s mission is to
focus on building social and academic skills of today to be
the women of tomorrow. The scholarships have been made
available through the generous support of Bo Hall, owner and
CEO of Hall Community Services. Hall noted that “this is a
golden opportunity to give back to the community by
supporting a dynamic program that is focusing on the
development of young girls as they GROW into successful
young ladies.”
