at the Roanoke Civic Center from
8:00am - 7:00pm
Teams that do not check in will not
be allowed to play.

Dates: Friday, Saturday & Sunday, July 17-19, 2009.
   
Locations: Various locations in Roanoke City, Roanoke County and Botetourt County. 
   
Entry Fee: $230 per team

Entry Deadline:  July 7, 2009 - Noon

Checks will not be accepted for payment.


There will be an additional $20 fee for all mail in registrations.

Rosters:   Team rosters are limited to 15 players, 2 coaches and one score keeper.
   
Schedules:   Schedules will be mailed or emailed to the teams after July 10, 2009 and posted on the website. Some divisions will be required to play on Friday afternoon, July 17, beginning at 2:00 PM.
   
CONDUCT OF PLAYERS: Unsportsmanlike conduct on the part of players, coaches, or spectators will not be tolerated and may result in expulsion from the Commonwealth Games. Coaches will be held responsible for their players.
   
Team Check In: Teams will not be allowed to play until they Check-In.  Teams will forfeit their first game for failure to check-in.  NO EXCEPTIONS AND NO REFUNDS.  Check in will be located at Roanoke Civic Center  - Friday, July 17 8am - 7pm.
   
Important Notice: The Coventry Commonwealth Games Basketball Tournament will be limited to the first 150 teams that enter and pay their entry fee or until a division is full.
   
Age Groups: Division category is determined by the grade of the oldest team player.
Age group divisions are determined as follows:
   
  Age for men 18 & over and women19 & over will be determined by the age you are on July 17, 2009. For adults, the age of the YOUNGEST player will determine the division. Coaches should be prepared to show proof of players age upon demand.  Coaches will be required to furnish player proof of grade/eligibility upon request from tournament director at anytime during competition.
   
Format of Play: 3 GAME GUARANTEE. NOTE:  No team will receive medals if they do not participate in medal games.
   
Rules of Play: Virginia High School League and Coventry Commonwealth Games rules for boys and girls basketball will be followed with the following playing times and rules modifications:
   
  1. 10U – 12U will 14 minutes halves, 13U -18U and adults will play 16 minutes half. All will have 5 minute halftimes.
   
  2. If the game is tied at the end of regulation, then all overtime periods shall be 3 minutes in length until the game is decided.
 
  3. Only those persons whose names appear on the official roster may sit on the bench. This includes 15 team members, two coaches and one score keeper.
   
4. Matching Jerseys with numbers are required. Duplicate numbers are not allowed.
   
  5.  Once a team has a lead of 30 points or more in the second half, the clock will continue to run.  Once the lead drops to 20 points or less, the clock will stop accordingly to VHSL rules.
   
  A.  Cross Boundary Athletes - There shall be a maximum of three cross boundary athletes on a roster at any time.  This rule applies to all age divisions.  Cross Boundary athletes must be declared on Games roster.  Cross boundary players described by Game rules refers to neighboring districts such as North Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, Maryland, Kentucky and Potomac Valley.

B.  Grade Confirmation - Players participating under the grade eligibility exception must complete form.  NOTE:  Grade level is determined by players grade on March 1 2009.

C.  Boys Only Age Determining Date/Grade Exception Rule - September 1, 2008 shall be the determining date for the age of the competitor for all districts and national championship events.  Eligibility to participate is based first on the age determining date.  The grade of the athlete is not a consideration of the athlete meets the age determining date.  An athlete who does not meet the age determining date may qualify under the grade exception rule.  In the 9U/ 3rd Grade through the 14U/8th Grade division, each team is allowed a maximum of three age-grade exceptions athletes.  There is no limit on the number of grade exception athletes in the 15U/9th Grade divisions through the senior boys division.  Please fill out the Boys Basketball Grade Exception form and send in with roster.  Please follow the guidelines below:

Senior Boys Division - born on or after September 1, 1988 (no later than summer following HS Class Graduation or Prep School graduation).  No limit on the number of grade exception athletes.

Junior Boys Division - born on or after September 1, 1990 Grade Exception 1:  A player who is in the 11th grade and who was born on or after September 1, 1989 can participate in the Junior Boys/11th grade division.

Grade Exception 2:  A player who is enrolling in Prep School is eligible to participate in the AAU Jr. Boy's Basketball program provided he was born on or after September 1, 1989.  No limit on the number of grade exception athletes.

16 and Under/10th grade - born on or after September 1, 1991 - Grade Exception:  a player who is in the 10th grade and who was born on or after September 1, 1990 can participate in the 16 and under/10th grade division.  No limit on the number of grade exception athletes.

15 and Under/9th grade - born on or after -September 1, 1992 - Grade Exception:  A player who is in the 9th grade and who was born on or after September 1, 1991 can participate in the 15: under/9th grade division.  No limit on the number of grade exception athletes.

14 and Under/8th grade - born on or after September 1, 1993 - Grade Exception:  A player who is in the 8th grade and who was born on or after September 1, 1992 can participate in the 14 under/8th grade division.  Maximum of three grade exception athletes per team.

13 and Under/7th grade - born on or after September 1, 1994 - Grade Exception:  A player who is in the 7th grade and who was born on or after September 1, 1993 can participate in the 13: under/7th grade division.  Maximum of three grade exception athletes per team.

12 and Under/6th grade - born on or after September 1, 1995 - Grade Exception:  A player who is in the 6th grade and who was born on or after September 1, 1994 can participate in the 12: under/6th grade division.  Maximum of three grade exception athletes per team.

11 and Under/5th grade - born on or after September 1, 1996 - Grade Exception:  A player who is in the 5th grade and who was born on or after September 1, 1995 can participate in the 11: and under/5th grade division.  Maximum of three grade exception athletes per team.

10 and Under/4th grade - born on or after September 1, 1997 - Grade Exception:  A player who is in the 4th grade and who was born on or after September 1, 1996 can participate in the 10: under/4th grade division.  Maximum of three grade exception athletes per team.

D.  Player Participation -   A player may participate in only one age/grade division.

Game Balls: The official size men's and women's basketball will be used. Boys 12 and under will use the women's size ball. Teams must provide own practice ball.  Home team will provide game ball.
