Entries: Forms must be post-marked by May 20, 2012. Phone or fax entries will be accepted through May 25, 2012. Entries will be accepted up to (and including) day of contest, but will be charged a late fee. Please send entries with check payable to Twirling Unlimited to:

2012 Baton Information Details

General information:

  • Twirlers from ALL organizations are welcome to participate in any Twirling Unlimited event. There is no membership fee or special requirement. Gymnastics moves are allowed; and time limits are broad enough to cover all organizations.
  • Twirlers from all states and any twirling organization are welcome to participate in the open events of the Blue Ridge TwirlFest.
  • Twirlers from any state except ME, PA, NE, MA and AZ are welcome to participate in the Subway Commonwealth Games of Virginia (these states have baton twirling in their own State Games.)
  • If there is a conflict in scheduling, the contestant should report to both judges.
  • No flash photography is allowed, and any video taping must be of your child only!
  • Building owners, contest officials and contest sponsors are not responsible for losses, accidents or injuries.
  • NO SMOKING allowed anywhere on school grounds.
  • There is no admission fee charged at the door. However, we ask that each family pay a facility fee of $10 (added to entry form) to help defray costs.
  • Concessions will be available for purchase all day. With the exception of judges and contest officials, no one will be permitted to bring food or drink into the gym.

Nov., Beg., Int., Adv. Strut - Age divisions: 0-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15+ (March music, No specific floor patter (X strut, straight line or freestyle), Time limit: 2 minutes max)

Special Beg. Basic March - Ages divisions: 0-6, 7-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15+ (Never won 1st place in Basic March)

Beginner Basic March - Age divisions: 0-6, 7-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15+ (March in a square)

Advanced Basic March - Age divisions: 0-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15+ (March in a square)

Beg. & Adv. Military March - Age divisions: 0-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15+

Note: TU rules limit the number of toss turns and rolls which may be executed by twirlers in the developmental levels of solo twirl. Check TU rules for specifics and for classificiation definitions. 

All solo ages: 0-6, 7-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15+

Level 1 (Special Beginner) Solo - No more than 1 spin/ 2 elbows. Time: 1-2 min

Level 2 (Novice) Solo - No more than 2 spins/ 4 elbows. Time: 1 1/2 - 2min

Level 3 (Beginner) Solo - No more than 3 spins/ 6 elbows. Time: 1 1/2 - 2 min

Level 4 (Intermediate) Solo - No more than 4 spins/ 8 elbows. Time: 1 1/2 - 2 1/4 min

Level 5 (Advanced) Solo - No restrictions. Time: 2 - 2 1/2 min

Boys Solo - Age divisions: 0-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15+ Time: 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 min

Beg., Int., Adv. 2 Baton: Age divisions: 0 - 8, 9-11, 12-14, 15+ (Time limit 1 1/2 - 2 min)

3-Baton: Age divisions: 0 - 8, 9-11, 12-14, 15+ (Time limit 1 1/2 - 2 min)

Duet Twirl -  Age divisions: 0 - 8, 9-11, 12-14, 15+ March music - Time 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 min

Solo Show Routine - Age divisions: 0 - 8, 9-11, 12-14, 15+ Use own music; dance with baton (novelties optional) 1 1/2 - 3 min

Duet Show Routine - Same as Solo Show; use averaged ages

Groups

Age divisions: Pee Wee (0 - 6.9); Tiny Tot (7.0 - 8.9); Juvenile (9.0 - 10.9); Junior (11.0 - 13.9); Senior (14+)

All teams: Small (3-5 members); Medium (6-10 members); Large (11+ members)

Dance Twirl - Use your own music; 1 1/2 - 3 min

Twirl Teams - Standard march music; 1 1/2 - 3 min

Duet Strut & Strut Teams - Use your own music; 1 - 2 1/2 min

Novelty/Show Teams - Use some equipment instead of, or in additional to one baton; use your own music; 1 1/2 - 3 min

Poms - Use your own music; 1 1/2 - 3 min

Production Groups - 10 members minimum; 5 - 10 min

Corps - Floor, Street Parade and Mini - 10 members minimum (See www.twirlingunlimited.com for specifics)

Pageants: all levels - ages - 0-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15+

Adv. Miss Twirlfest - 3 part competition. Contestants will compete in Best Appearing, Twirl & Solo Show Routine

Beg. and Int. Miss Twirlfest - 3 part competition. Contestants will compete in Best Appearing, Solo Twirl & Fancy Strut (classification determined by solo level)

Basic Skills Pageant - 3 part competition, Open to Level 1 and Level 2 (Special Beginner & Novice) twirlers only. Contestants will compete in Best Appearing, Solo Twirl & Basic Strut

Solos: (All girls solo ages: 0-6, 7-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15+; Boys solo ages: 0-8,9-11, 12-14, 15+)

Open Awards:
A system of flexible awards will be used. For divisions with 3 contestants or less: 1st place trophy, 2nd & 3rd place medals. 4 - 7 contestants: 1st & 2nd trophies, 3rd place meals. 8 - 10 contestants: 3 trophies. 11 - 14 contestants: 1-3 trophies, 4th & 5ths medals. 15 - 20 contestants: 1- 5 trophies.

Pageant Awards:
1 - 3 Medal Model, Strut, Twirl, 1-3 Trophy Overall, Banner & flowers for winners.

Subway Commonwealth Games Awards:
Teams - Gold, silver & bronze neck medallions for each 1st - 3rd place team member

All individual events, all levels - Gold, silver & bronze neck medallions
